Learn all about how to get your students involved in Citizen Science
Join us for this exciting PD webinar designed to bring real-world science into your classroom through the power of citizen science! In partnership with SciStarter, this training will introduce teachers to the dynamic world of citizen science, where students can actively contribute to scientific research. Learn about the upcoming Citizen Science Month and how you can integrate projects that engage students as contributors to data collection and observation.
Our featured project, in collaboration with Instant Wild and National Geographic, will spotlight the use of camera traps—remote cameras used to capture images of wildlife for conservation research. You’ll discover how to guide your students in observing animal behavior, collecting data, and supporting conservation efforts, all while developing critical thinking and observation skills. Perfect for all grade levels, this webinar is a unique opportunity to add an interactive, impactful tool to your teaching toolkit. Don’t miss out on empowering your students to become real-world scientists from the classroom!

April is Citizen Science Month!
Everyone, everywhere is invited to start preparing for this global effort to generate One Million Acts of Science and promote student participation in scientific research!
Did you know? Scientists can’t be everywhere and they don’t have all the answers! That’s why they count on students and volunteers from around the world to join their projects to help collect data when they don’t have enough (pictures, measurements, observations, etc) or help analyze data when they have too much (sort through images to look for designated items or characteristics).
Featuring
Emma Giles | Manager of Public Outreach and Programs, SciStarter
Emma Giles is the Manager of Public Outreach and Programs at SciStarter, where she oversees the creation of public-facing materials, events, and campaigns, and hosts "SciStarter LIVE," a virtual event series that brings project scientists into conversation with the public. She is also the managing director of SciStarter's Citizen Science Month and One Million Acts of Science, among other signature programs. Emma holds a Master’s degree in Science & Technology Policy from Arizona State University. In 2021, she was awarded the Teach Earth Fellowship with Earthwatch, where she studied caterpillars and climate change in southern Arizona during her tenure as a 5th grade math and science teacher. Continuing her education in 2023, Emma attended the University of Vienna's Scientific World Conceptions Summer School Vienna Circle on Climate Science.
Hannah Hughes | Marine Project Officer, ZSL & Instant Wild
Hannah is the Marine Project Officer at the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), where she works across three initiatives: the South Atlantic Plastics, Project SIARC, and Instant Wild. Her role focuses heavily on citizen science and community engagement. She is committed to expanding the ZSL’s Instant Wild platform to engage more people in wildlife conservation. This involves managing and curating new wildlife footage for the platform, helping to bring global conservation efforts directly to users and inspiring public involvement in preserving our planet’s biodiversity.
