Environmental Science Education Research Study:
Heat Island Effect
PocketLab and TERC (a STEM education research non-profit) are seeking science teachers across the country to pilot a new PocketLab lesson unit and PocketLab sensors in their classrooms. Using PocketLab Thermo, your students will collect temperature and location data in their communities to learn about the Heat Island Effect.
To be eligible to participate, you should:
- Teach high school or 8th grade Environmental Science, Earth Science, Biology, or Health.
-
Have the flexibility to include a 2-week long unit in Spring 2025 or Fall 2025
- Be willing to help researchers get permission from your schools/districts and parents to conduct the study in your classroom
- Be available for some virtual trainings, interviews, debrief calls, and potentially an in-person observation
All participating teachers will receive a classroom set of PocketLab sensors, as well as a stipend of $400.
The research study is integrated with PocketLab’s innovative sensors and probeware that enable inquiry based hands-on labs. And all student and teacher materials are delivered through the award winning PocketLab Notebook app.
